Congratulations to Sangwon Suh, winner of the Senior Solo Competition! He will be performing the first movement of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the DE All-State Orchestra in March. Sangwon is a student at St. Andrew's School - Mr. Fred Geiersbach, director. Congratulations and thanks to all the seniors who competed.
Applicants for DMEA's annual Senior Solo Competition must be a twelfth grade string, woodwind, brass, percussion or vocal performers. The winner of the Senior Solo competition will perform with the Delaware All-State Orchestra. A renowned panel of judges will adjudicate the auditions. Applicants audition by performing their choice of a selection for solo instrument or voice for which an orchestral accompaniment exists. Concertos, concertinos or movements thereof, operatic arias and art songs are acceptable pieces; popular songs and songs from Broadway Musicals are excluded. The length of the piece should not exceed ten minutes. Memorization of the solo is mandatory for the performances; music may be read at the audition. Each applicant must audition with piano accompaniment, secured on his/her own.
